Artist of the Month: Eugene Francis Jnr

Posted on 5th September 2008 by Ruby Tuesday in Artist of the Month

Because we have such limited time here at Traxx, Band of the Week has now become Artist of the Month!

…And September’s Artist of the Month is Eugene Francis Jnr.
Eugene, a.k.a Kristian Williams, is, in the opinion of Traxx Radio, one of the most underrated artists in the indie scene. As an independent Welsh act, Eugene’s instrumental credentials include guitar, bass, banjo, synthesizer, keyboard, drums, mandolin and even the old classic theremin!

Initially playing in various bands between ‘94 and ‘05, Eugene Francis Jnr’s solo career really took off just last year (in between a car accident and being struck by lightning) upon the release of the limited edition double A-side vinyl, Poor Me / Kites. Around this time he was invited to open for the popular Canadian indie duo, Tegan & Sara.

In April 2008, the debut solo album The Golden Beatle was released through Legion. Since then, Traxx has been spinning tracks from the album including Beginners and My Own Polution, and you can expect to hear the brand new single Poor Me on the air from early next week.

And what’s ahead for this talented one-man-band? I’ve heard on the grapevine that rumour is Eugene’s to open a few upcoming shows for Todd Rundgren and even Coldplay. We’ll have to wait and hear…

Artist of the Month – THE KTHANXBYES

Posted on 12th August 2008 by Ruby Tuesday in Artist of the Month

Fresh and young, 4 piece Sydney rockers Laura, Ree, Rae and Jono have been jamming together for just over a year. All still in school and with only one just old enough to hit the bar, they’ve already taken to the scene at Sydney’s Ferragosto festival and a list of venues including the Annandale.  They’ve even snapped up a live gig on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show.

With a clearly refined and consistent sound, these guys have definitely set their musical direction in stone and I love it! A stand out from the massive amount of young bands coming out of Sydney at the moment.

Kthanxbyes’ track Powerlines has been hitting the Traxx airwaves since June, initially dropping into our playlists at the highest rotation level. Hear the track Slap You In Public below and expect it on our playlists soon.
