How do people find music and fall in love with bands and artists that appeal to them? Radio has been a medium of music discovery for many decades. It's been a long time since the boats floated in international waters off of the UK shores. Throughout the 60s, pirates introduced us to incredible new music that we couldn't hear anywhere else. They did it solely for the passion. Today, the mainstream media continues to cater only for themselves. Afterall, it's not about the music. Commercial networks care not for the quality of what they play. These major corporations don't count listeners among their key stakeholders, and musicians certainly don't make the list. Their monetary motivation is shared with the big four record labels. Even Australia's so called "national youth broadcaster", the ABC's Triple J, continues to move their playlists toward a more mainstream format. Whilst it alienates its audience and loses relevance, the indie music scene continues to thrive.

Although college radio stations all over the world do a fantastic job in supporting independent musicians, many focus on a local audience and push a varied format. There must continue to be media that stands for passion and quality by engaging with their audience, accurately informing and remaining truly independent. This is what traxx is, this is what traxx does, and this is what traxx strives to achieve.
